In terms of hardcover, ebook, and audio forms combined, the memoir "Spare" has already sold 4,000 copies on its first day of availability.
According to Larry Finlay, managing director of Transworld Penguin Random House, "Even though we had high hopes for this book, it is outperforming all of them. Only books featuring the other Harry [Potter] have, as far as we are aware, sold more copies on their first day."
Although it retails for £28 (Rs 2,778), many stores, like Waterstones and WH Smith, are selling it for just £14 instead (Rs 1,389). Amazon is also selling it for £14 there.
According to The Bookseller's editor, Philip Jones, "It is likely to be one of the biggest novels of the year in terms of sales and effect" . When asked how many copies a book needs to sell to succeed, Mr. Jones replied that 50,000 copies will make it "number one" and a "success."
Harry's shocking allegations against his father King Charles, stepmother Camilla, and older brother Prince William are among the book's revelations. Prince Harry's violent argument with William, the heir to the throne, and how they both implored his father not to marry Camilla, who he married in 2005 and is now the queen consort, are two of the book's standout moments.
While distressing information from the book and a flurry of pre-publication TV interviews have accumulated, the royal family, led by King Charles III and Prince William, has remained silent.
